What IU Is (and Isn’t)
IU is a space for quiet, intentional exploration — a place to notice things, name things, and hear yourself in the presence of a few other humans. It’s not therapy or coaching, and it’s not designed for crisis processing or unloading everything at once. I hold the structure of the hour, but you’re responsible for your own emotional boundaries and choices.
My role is to guide the flow, offer prompts, and keep the container steady. I’m not here to diagnose, fix, or interpret your life for you. We come together as equals, each bringing our own perspective, curiosity, and humanity.
A Space for Real Conversation
Because IU sessions are small — just three explorers and me — we share the space by taking turns. Everyone gets room to speak, and we stay mindful of leaving space for one another. The hour feels best when no one voice fills it, and when each person brings just enough of themselves for the conversation to unfold naturally.
These sessions are intentionally tiny so we can actually talk with one another — not perform, not lecture, and not sit silently on the sidelines. Part of the magic of IU is giving quieter people room to hear themselves, and to be heard by others. Listening is part of the experience, but so is contributing your own voice.
We create the hour together.
Showing Up as Humans (Cameras On)
To help us feel like real humans in a shared space, I ask that cameras stay on. It doesn’t need to be perfect lighting or a curated background — just enough presence that we’re not talking into the void.
There will be moments in many IU events when we’re doing something individually — imagining, wandering, writing, searching — and you’re welcome to turn your camera off briefly during those parts if it helps you settle or focus.
And if being on camera is truly not possible for you, just let me know. We can work with that.
But in general, having our faces visible helps the space feel grounded, connected, and alive. It helps me host well, and it helps us feel like we’re actually here together.
Participating at Your Own Pace
You never have to share more than feels right, and you’re welcome to take your time. But this isn’t a spectator space. Your presence, your voice, and your perspective matter here, and the hour only comes alive when everyone brings a little of themselves into it.
Respectful Presence
We keep things grounded, gentle, and human. No fixing, advising, or rescuing — just honest sharing, curiosity, and taking turns so everyone has space.
Privacy & Not Recording
What’s shared in the room stays in the room. I don’t record sessions, and I ask that you don’t record them either. I don’t share or sell your information. While I can’t guarantee what others do, we enter the space with a shared commitment to mutual respect and confidentiality.
Timing & Attendance
IU sessions run for about an hour. We begin right on time so everyone can settle in together and ease into the experience. Arriving on time helps us start gently and supports the flow for everyone involved.
While the hour is our general shape, there’s a little natural flexibility. We may end a few minutes early if the group feels complete, or run just a touch over if someone is finishing a thought. I’m mindful that introverts tend to do best with a clear timeframe, so I keep us close to the hour while allowing the session to unfold without abrupt endings.
A Life of Exploration
Exploration doesn’t have to end when the hour does. These sessions are simply places to practice something you can carry with you anywhere: noticing what feels alive, following your own threads of curiosity, and letting yourself explore gently, in your own way.
May your explorations be spacious and kind, wherever they lead you.
